Last Sunday The Beatles reunited for a final gig in Heusden-Zolder. Two members had to be dug up from the grave, but they were all there, in freshly washed suits. A semi-support act started the set with a couple of acoustic songs (a bluesy rendition of 'Hard day's night', ' Norwegian wood' and a beautiful version of George Harrisons 'Here comes the sun').
After them Rocco and His Beatles came on stage and opened with 'Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band ' . Six more songs from the album with the same name were played. Highlights for me included 'With a little help from my friends' (sung by 'Ringo', as is also the case in the original), 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds', 'She's leaving home', 'Day in the life' and 'Eleanor Rigby' (including string arrangement!).
After a short break, the band together with Mauro (Rocco's nephew) kicked the second part of the set off with a blistering version of 'Helter Skelter', immediately followed by Yer Blues (off the White Album) and 'I am the Walrus' (googoogadjoo). Further highlights followed ('While my guitar gently weeps' !), with the grand finale being 'Hey Jude' (with everyone singing the outro). An encore followed, namely 'Let it be'.
Next year Hendrix' Electric Ladyland maybe?
