Borderlines festival, De Singel, Antwerpen, September 5th, 2003
____________________________________________

Borderlines was a festival, organised by urbanmag in de Singel in Antwerpen. Apart from the musical part, it also featured videos and visual arts in general.
Mauro's first appearance of the evening was in the form of a solo set. Armed with a couple of guitars, a heavy reverb effect, a small organ and his favourite toy (also featured in Shadowgraphic City), he started. What followed ranged from softly whispered words (Guitar Man) to weirdly distorted voices, from lazily strummed semi-acoustic guitar to a rather impressive Hey Hey My My-inspired song on electric guitar. The show ended with a dark blues rendition of 'Running with the devil', with a dictaphone with prerecorded guitar ramblings on it held against the microphone and Mauro singing at the same time.
Later on the evening a band called Toss played a set. After half an hour of free-noise, going from soft(ish) guitar improv to harder outbursts, Mauro joined the band for another half an hour. He played guitar improvisations together with the rest of the band. Toss consists of three guys, one on drums/percussion and the other two switching between guitar and knob twiddling. I would have like a shorter or more varied set, but then again, what do I know of free-noise...
